Autumn Favourites

It’s definitely autumn now, with beautiful leaves around us and cooler temperatures giving us a reason to wear tights and boots and big snuggly scarves (or is that just me?!). As we move into autumn I switch up my skincare routine slightly (as my skin becomes drier) and my make up preferences tend to alter a little too. In this post I’ll share some of my current autumn favourites.

Autumn Favourites

Balm Balm Beauty Balm*

I raved about this in my recent post about the LoveLula September Beauty Box so I won’t go on too much but I am absolutely loving it. I tend to use it in the evening and it’s such a gentle yet incredibly effective cleanser, even on days I wear make up. The thing I love, and the reason I’ve included it in my autumn favourites, is how nourishing it is for my skin. It feels lovely to massage into my skin and it leaves it feeling amazing after I’ve rinsed it. I have also used it as an overnight moisturiser; it’s a great multipurpose product. You only need a tiny amount of product so I think this is really good value for money.

Balm Balm Beauty Balm* is available from LoveLula* for £16.50.

Joik Exfoliating Facial Scrub*

I tried a sample of this a few months ago (hooray for LoveLula stocking samples!), and I loved it but at the time I was using another face scrub (Sukin Super Greens Detoxifying Facial Scrub*, also recommended). Once I’d finished that scrub I ordered the full size of the Joik one, and I now use it a couple of times a week. It contains small grains which help exfoliate, and I find it really helps to deep cleanse and smooth the skin. It’s a fairly gentle scrub which doesn’t irritate my skin at all, and in the cooler months I prefer something a little gentler like this so as not to strip my skin too much. This is a little pricey, however you really only need a tiny amount compared to other scrubs so I feel it offers good value for money.

Sukin Super Greens Nutrient Rich Face Moisturiser*

I’ve mentioned this before on the blog and it’s something I’ve been using for over a year now. I find this to be a very effective moisturiser for my dry skin. It nourishes and is an excellent primer for days when I’m wearing make up. It is quite a thick, creamy moisturiser so takes a little longer to soak in but once it does it leaves the skin feeling really smooth. I find that it doesn’t add any sheen to the skin so if you prefer a matt finish I think you would like this. It’s great value for money compared to other moisturisers. The only real downside for me is the lack of SPF so I tend to wear this under make up which has SPF.

Sukin Super Greens Nutrient Rich Face Moisturiser* is available from LoveLula* for £9.99.

Laidbare From Dusk Till Dawn*

This is a very new addition to my skincare routine but it has earnt its place as a favourite already. I’m trying out a few Laidbare* items and am really impressed (full review to come when I’ve given them a good test for a few weeks), but this is a standout product for me and very seasonally appropriate. I hadn’t realised this would be an oil serum and am delighted it is as I’d been looking for a face oil to use at night. This is just a gorgeous product. You only need a tiny amount to cover your face and neck, and it feels lovely to massage in. It tends to sit on the skin so I wouldn’t use it during the day; it’s intended for night time use hence the name. From the first morning after I used it, my skin felt so soft and smooth. I’ve used it every night for over a week now and look forward to using it each evening. It’s such a reasonable price too. Highly recommend!

Laidbare From Dusk Till Dawn* is available from LoveLula* for £12.99.

Inika Loose Mineral Blush in Blooming Nude

Another item that featured on the blog last year, but this is one I’ve only recently started to use again as I tend to wear peach or pink shade blushes in spring and summer. This is, as the name suggests, a beautiful nude blush. It’s easy to apply but fairly subtle and blends well. It’s the sort of shade that can be used as a bronzer or contour to shape the face, whilst also being able to be used in the traditional way to add that “just pinched” type effect to the cheeks; this is how I tend to use it. It lasts well during the day and as you only need a small amount per application I think they’re great value.

Inika Loose Mineral Blush in Blooming Nude is available from Inika for £21.00.

Pacifica Color Quench Lip Tint in Sugared Fig*

I recently shared a full review of all the shade of the Pacifica Color Quench Lip Tints which are probably my most used non-skincare item. As we move into the cooler months I tend to favour slightly darker make up (partly to accompany my burgundy winter coats!) and the Sugared Fig shade is perfect for this. You can see swatches of the colour in my previous post. I wear this either with or without other make up.

Pacifica Color Quench Lip Tint in Sugared Fig* is available from LoveLula* for £7.49.

Another new one though I don’t feel you need to test make up items as long as skincare items – I loved this as soon as I tried it. I love the versatility and also the fact that it’s so compact so perfect for travel. It is fairly pigmented so I find I have to be very light-handed when using it as a blush. I tend to apply it to my lips first and then use what is left on my fingers to apply to my cheeks. It’s a lovely smooth consistency and I find it moisturises the lips. The stain lasts well – I wore this recently and could still notice the stain about 3 hours later. I love multipurpose products and am likely to be checking out other shades in this range.

Ere Perez Clever Carrot Cheek & Lip Balm in Holy* is available from LoveLula* for £17.00 (currently on sale for £13.60).

So that’s what I’m loving for autumn – what are your favourite autumnal products? Let me know in the comments if you have any recommendations.

Ere Perez Pure Rice Powder Blush

I got some of the Ere Perez Pure Rice Powder Blush* as part of my ‘face of natural make up’ for my LoveLula* video (I got it with credit I was rewarded but am reviewing it as if I purchased it myself). You can see the video at: https://youtu.be/OSAWjVOnXxw or see it embedded in my earlier blog post (which links to each of the products).

I don’t tend to wear blush often, but I always feel like it makes a difference to a ‘made up’ look. I was particularly intrigued by this blush as it has two shades that you can use swirled together or independently. It actually says on the box you can use it as a blusher, eye shadow or to add colour to lips with a balm. I’ve only tried it as a blusher so far.

It’s a pure rice powder with minimal ingredients (no GMO) and is vegan and cruelty free (and fragrance free too). There are a number of different shades to choose from and I went for the Rose Tones one which seemed the most suitable for my pale skin.

I really like the packaging – it’s a sturdy product with a good clasp that I trust would stay closed (seems a minor thing but essential for travel and so many blushes are either too difficult or too easy to open!). Having said that, I don’t know about its eco-friendly credentials. It also has a mirror included in the packaging, and it’s one that you can actually use to apply the blush as it does show the whole face.

I’ve been swirling the two colours together using a blush brush to apply this. It’s darker than I was expecting and it’s very pigmented so you really do only need a tiny amount. It doesn’t have much shimmer so is more of a matt effect blush, which I feel means it is suitable for all times of year and for both day and evening wear. It’s a fairly natural shade, definitely a ‘just pinched’ type effect. I’ve found it does wear during the day, though I find this with most blushes.

In summary

I like it, but I’m not finding myself reaching for it very often. As mentioned I don’t tend to reach for blush that often anyway, but when I fell in love with an Inika blush I wore that every day as I loved it so much. I don’t love this that much but I’m not sure why.

Repurchase

I probably wouldn’t repurchase this though to be honest I think it will last a long time anyway! I’ve not fallen in love with it as much as some of the other items I’ve tried so although there’s nothing wrong with it I’m not finding myself scouring the Ere Perez brand for other products at the moment (though I have to confess the cream lip and cheek balm* is tempting!).

Natural Makeup from LoveLula

I recently entered a competition on the LoveLula Natural Beauty Club on Facebook, and won £100 worth of credit to spend on makeup from LoveLula* to review for a video. I had a lot of fun choosing the products (though narrowing down my wishlist and sticking to a £100 budget was tricky – I did go slightly over but there was an offer on at the time!). As always with LoveLula, the delivery arrived really quickly and I was soon able to start trying the products.

I got the following items:

After a couple of weeks of testing them out and seeing what I thought, I sat down and turned the camera on whilst applying them and nattering on about what I thought about each product. I then spent an afternoon editing the video to add in the close ups and product information (and remove a few unnecessary bits like letting the cat out of the room!), and this morning the video went live on YouTube. You can view it at https://youtu.be/OSAWjVOnXxw or embedded below:

I really enjoyed trying the products out and sharing my experience – it fits well with two of my authentic motivators which are learning new things and sharing my learning with others to help them. I think it’s why I’ve always enjoyed blogging and I appreciated having the ability to be able to talk about things in a video format (I didn’t intend for it to be 30 minutes long but that’s how long I needed!).  I have also written blog posts for each of these items and they’re scheduled to be posted over the next week (one each day).

I think I’d like to do more videos in future so I hope you enjoy watching this. If you have any questions or comments (or recommendations for me to try!) please feel free to leave them either on this blog post or on the YouTube video. Thank you 🙂
